Bedulu - Experience Traditions

Located 26 kilometers northeast of Denpasar, Bedulu lies within proximity to Ubud. Bedulu is a quiet and traditional Balinese village faraway from Ubud's mass tourism.

Located on the banks of the Petanu River, the village achieved fame because of the nearby 11th-century Elephant Cave, also known as Goa Gaja. The surrounding area boasts Bali's most interesting and ancient wonders including Gunung Kawi and the Yeh Pulu carvings.

In the 1930s, the modern form of the kecak dance (monkey dance) was created here. Bedulu's Museum Gedong Arca houses archeological items which reflect Balinese historical and cultural development.

The village is surrounded by small canyons and paddy fields. Along the main street, there are some small warungs (food and beverage kiosks) and a night market. At ceremonies or dance and gamelan rehearsals, you are always a gladly-seen guest.

On this relatively small island (about the size of the Swiss canton of Berne) with its innumerable attractions, Bedulu is an ideal starting point for excursions to most places on Bali. Even the closest beach is only 15 minutes drive away. Bedulu lies approx. 300 meters above sea level. The area is clearly cooler than those, particularly in the European winter, too hot tourist center at the coast of Bali.
